Significance Of Dhanteras

Dhanteras also known as Dhanvantari Triodasi is celebrated on the 13th lunar day of Krishna Paksha. The festival marks the beginning of Diwali festival and it is celebrated two days before Diwali.The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Hindus. On this festival, people bought gold, silver and utensils for their home.  People decorates their home and house door with colorful lighting to welcome the Goddess Lakshmi.

The Goddess Lakshmi gives blessings of well being and prosperity. The festival holds great importance in business community. It is a tradition to buy jewellery on this day. Business premises are decorated on this day. Shopkeeper offers great deals and discount on this day like Vehicle offers and housing offers. But in rural areas, the festival is celebrated in different manner. On this day, farmers worship their cattle as they are the only and the main source of their income.

On this day people begin the purchase of Diwali Celebration. Crackers, Goddess Lakshmi, diyas, candles, toys, cloths are purchased on this day. It is believed that if a girl child born on this day, she is considered as the arrival of Goddess Lakshmi into the house. Worshipping Goddess Lakshmi on this day is said to grant wealth and happiness.
